As part of the project: The MNK Czartoryski Museum – extension and refurbishment of a branch of the National Museum in Kraków, plans are in place to develop and open up the library’s courtyard. The Museum, in collaboration with the Faculty of Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, has announced a competition for students to produce a conceptual and architectural design for the layout of the courtyard space at the National Museum in Krakow – the MNK Czartoryski Museum.
On 6 March 2026, the results of the student competition for the preparation of a conceptual and architectural design for the courtyard space at the National Museum in Kraków – the MNK Czartoryski Museum, built in 1960 at 17 św. Marka Street, Krakow, organised jointly by the National Museum in Krakow and the Faculty of Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts.
The opening up and redesign of the courtyard is one of the tasks carried out as part of the project: The MNK Czartoryski Museum – extension and refurbishment of the National Museum in Krakow.

Following the deliberations held on 17 February 2026, the Competition Jury decided not to award the 1st prize and to award the subsequent prizes and honourable mentions to the following projects:
2nd Prize – entry no. 040314 student Monika Jasińska – prize of PLN 2,000
for its great expressive power and uniformity of form, as well as for its clear reference to the location – the library – and the clarity of its approach, inspired by an open book.
3rd Prize – entry no. 130701 student Daria Wyrębska – prize of PLN 1,000
for high visual quality, the introduction of a sense of movement and a reference to the location (inspired by a ribbon bookmark). The jury appreciated the division into zones, the various furniture solutions, including mobile seating, the book-dividing design, and the inclusion of a sliding table top.
First Honourable Mention – students Oliwia Symula and Honorata Śliwiak – prize of 500 PLN
for the openness of the design and for incorporating the movement of water.
Second Honourable Mention – student Julia Droździk – prize of 500 PLN
for the outstanding aesthetic quality of the graphic design and for the well-thought-out structure.
On 6 March 2026, a ceremony was held to announce the results and present diplomas to the winners and all participants. The winning entries will be on display at an exhibition in the courtyard of the MNK Czartoryski Museum from 17 to 22 March 2026.
