The PGE Foundation invites you to take part in the fourth edition of the ‘Encounters with Art’ art competition!

2 kwietnia 2022

The theme of this year’s edition is the work of Vincent van Gogh – one of the most recognisable painters in the history of art. The competition aims to foster the imagination and creative expression of children and young people, promote an understanding of art, and encourage participation in cultural life.

Who is it for?

The competition is open to pupils in Years 1–8 of primary schools in towns and villages with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants. This gives children from smaller towns and villages the chance to showcase their talents and visit Poland’s most important national museums.

Competition rules

Participants are tasked with creating an artwork that interprets a selected painting by Vincent van Gogh. Any technique may be used – from crayons and paints to cut-outs. Each class selects one entry to represent it in the competition. Entries will be judged in three age categories:

  • Years 1–3
  • Years 4–6
  • Years 7–8

Dates

The competition runs from 29 September to 19 November 2025. The results will be announced on 5 December 2025. Museum trips will take place from March to 10 June 2026.

Prizes

The PGE Foundation will invite the winners (the whole class together with their teacher) on a one-day trip to a selected museum supported by PGE, as well as to the National Museum in Gdańsk, the National Museum in Wrocław and the National Museum in Szczecin.

List of museums sponsored by PGE:

  • National Museum in Warsaw
  • National Museum in Lublin
  • National Museum in Kraków
  • National Museum in Kielce

Each winner will receive a voucher worth PLN 300 for Empik, and the class teacher will receive a voucher worth PLN 200.

Additional task – film competition

Schools can take part in a competition for the best report on a trip to a museum. A film posted on the school’s Facebook page will compete for the highest number of likes (relative to the number of pupils at the school). The five best reports will be published on the PGE Foundation’s profile, where the final round will take place. Prizes for schools:

  • 1st place – PLN 10,000
  • 2nd place – PLN 7,500
  • 3rd place – PLN 5,000

Final exhibition

The culmination of the 4th edition will be an open-air exhibition of the winners’ works at Skwer Wolnego Słowa in Warsaw – in front of the PGE S.A. headquarters.

Patronage and promotion

The competition is held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Minister of National Education. Media patronage for the event is provided by Telewizja Polska and the Niezła Sztuka portal.
