What is architecture, and what can it be? What are its relationships with users and the environment? How does it function, and how is it shaped by the natural environment, as well as by the social and cultural context?
The starting point for the team developing the exhibition on 20th and 21st-century architecture was to show it as a field closely connected with human activity in the world. Architecture takes form and functions in a close relationship with the place and time of its creation and the applicable system of values, both aesthetic and ethical, expressed, for example, in our attitude to the natural environment.
The exhibition is divided into six sections corresponding to important topics taken up by architects and urban planners: composition, nature, technology, manifesto (message), time and space and costs (responsibility). Based on these topics, the story of contemporary architecture in Poland has been told, along with its specific contexts and conditions of emergence.
