Created in Krakow after the end of World War I, Fencing is one of the most important works of Polish Formism. As the work of one of the Formist group’s main theorists, Leon Chwistek, it shows the significant influence of Cubism and Italian Futurism. This small oil painting on cardboard (70x100cm) demonstrates the artist’s knowledge of fencing systems, reflected in the precision of the duel. The dynamic composition is dominated by shades of violet and yellow.
