Weapons and Colours: Guided Tour

The “Weapons and Colours” Gallery presents a spectacular selection of the most valuable examples of Polish, European and Oriental weaponry from various periods, ranging from the 11th to the 19th century. Each item tells its own story: a solid gold mace associated with Stanisław Jabłonowski, one of the commanders of the Battle of Vienna in 1683; a monumental 18th-century tapestry; a cutlass that the writer Henryk Sienkiewicz brought back from a trip to Africa…
A guided tour of the exhibition will be a treat for lovers of bygone eras – for old military artefacts also offer fascinating symbolism, reflect advances in technology, and serve as an invaluable source of knowledge about history, fashion and people’s views. The guide’s narrative will not only allow visitors to view the exhibits in a broader, contextualised way, but may also serve as a starting point for reflection on the role of such collections in an art museum.
