The MNK Matejko Biographical Museum is not just a place where you can view works from different periods of the artist’s career and gain an insight into his creative process. It also offers the unique atmosphere of the historic house where one of Poland’s most recognisable painters was born, lived with his family and created his art.
As we tour the MNK Matejko House with a guide, we will try to recapture the spirit of days gone by – we will see what the artist’s studio looked like and how the drawing room was furnished, learn more about the painter’s family and friends, depicted in the portraits on display, and discover items from MNK Matejko’s own extensive collection. We will also trace the artist’s creative journey – from his early attempts to his final, mature works. We will see sketches for his famous large canvases and smaller, yet no less interesting paintings, such as “Nicolaus Copernicus, or a Conversation with God” or “The Interior of Casimir the Great’s Tomb”.
