The ‘Museum, People, Future’ mission statement was adopted by the National Museum in Krakow in 2022. The document set out the pillars of the Museum’s activities within the framework of ESG criteria, taking into account the institution’s impact on the natural environment (ecology), its audience (social responsibility), and the institution’s own management model (governance).
One of the key objectives of the mission is the ongoing documentation of activities and the exchange of information within the Museum team. Common guidelines, relating to various areas of the institution’s operations, have strengthened cooperation between the departments involved, representing all administrative divisions. This was facilitated by the establishment of an interdepartmental team of museum ambassadors; a group of people in regular contact, engaged in projects addressing the challenges identified in the mission statement.
The first eighteen months following the announcement of the ‘Museum, People, Future’ mission were marked by strategic and structural changes, adapting the institution’s operations to the recommendations contained in the document. In many cases, the changes were not major undertakings or were of a pilot nature. An important milestone was the review of recent experiences.
The National Museum in Kraków’s activities in the areas of CSR and ESG are developing thanks to numerous partnerships
and the exchange of knowledge with specialists in many fields. This collaboration allows us to be more responsive to the needs of the National Museum in Kraków’s audience and to better understand them. We make every effort to comply with current guidelines on institutional management, and as a result we receive support from European Union grant programmes.
The sum of these results brings us great satisfaction and motivation to continue our work. MNK’s projects are recognised and awarded. We strive to keep people informed about our activities on an ongoing basis, primarily so that they reach as wide an audience as possible.
