Would you like to be visited by a children’s book author? The National Museum in Kraków can arrange for Jagoda Gumińska-Oleksy or Katarzyna Maziarz-Górka to visit you; they are authors of books about the objects in the museum’s collection and the artists who created them.
During our outreach workshops, we try to answer the questions: Who can write a book? What does it take? We’ll suggest activities to spark the imagination and encourage creative thinking.
“Tales of Objects, or Fairy Tales Overheard in the Museum”
Led by: Jagoda Gumińska-Oleksy
What were the flies buzzing about when they wanted to help a couple in love? What was a lonely boy looking for in the mirror? Can shoes also bring good luck on Midsummer’s Eve? Join us for a meeting with a book that found the answers to these important questions in… a museum. It turns out that objects hidden in the nooks and crannies of museum exhibitions can possess magical powers and have many surprising stories to tell us. At the same time, these tales help us understand issues that are important from the perspective of both a child and their adult carer. Among other things, they speak of the need for friendship, of dreams that come true, though it is sometimes hard to notice, and of the ability to appreciate one’s role and place in the world.
“Trochębajki about MNK Wyspiański”
Hosted by: Katarzyna Maziarz-Górka
Why are the “Trochębajki” fairy tales, but only sort of? How much truth is there in them, and who tells them? What role do a certain esteemed collector, a conceited stove from a Bronowice cottage, and a somewhat worn-out frock coat play in these stories? We invite you to discover the story of little Stasiu – a boy who liked to draw – or of the adult, famous Kraków artist, MNK Wyspiański.
