The year 2026 is a special one for the National Museum in Krak\u00f3w, not least because it marks the 50th anniversary of the Karol Szymanowski Museum<\/strong> at the \u2018Atma\u2019 villa in Zakopane. The opening of this unique place, where the composer of Stabat Mater and Harnasie found a home, took place half a century ago, on 6 March 1976. This was made possible thanks to the care and commitment of many people who worked tirelessly to establish a memorial dedicated to the father of Polish contemporary music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6 March<\/strong> marked the 50th anniversary of the branch\u2019s establishment, which was officially opened with a performance of highlander music by instrumentalists from the Podhale region. The ensemble, comprising Szymon Tylka, Anna G\u0105sienica-Giewont, Pawe\u0142 Urba\u015b and Jakub G\u0105sienica-Giewont, continued the colourful, multi-generational tradition of highlander \u2018melodies\u2019, highlighting Karol Szymanowski\u2019s strong ties to the culture of Zakopane and the Podhale region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highlight of the programme was a concert featuring outstanding artists of the younger generation \u2013 violinist Aleksandra Kuls and pianist Marcin Koziak, winners of prestigious international competitions and highly regarded interpreters of Polish music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme featured, among other works, Karol Szymanowski\u2019s \u2018Myths\u2019 Op. 30 \u2013 one of the most important works in the 20th-century violin repertoire \u2013 and the \u2018Highlander\u2019s Dance\u2019 from the ballet \u2018Harnasie\u2019, arranged by Pawe\u0142 Kocha\u0144ski. The concert would not have been complete without the world premiere of \u201cLa luce dell\u2019Atma\u201d by composer Anna Zawadzka-Go\u0142osz, written especially for the anniversary on the initiative of Dr Ma\u0142gorzata Janicka-S\u0142ysz, Professor at the Academy of Music in Krak\u00f3w and Atma\u2019s programme curator. The composition, inspired by the space and atmosphere of \u2018Atma\u2019, offers a contemporary interpretation of Karol Szymanowski\u2019s musical and spiritual legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The anniversary was not only an opportunity to celebrate the museum\u2019s history, but also a reflection on the living presence of Karol Szymanowski\u2019s music in contemporary culture. The programme of the event was overseen by Dr Ma\u0142gorzata Janicka-S\u0142ysz, Professor at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krak\u00f3w and programme curator at \u2018Atma\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
